What should I expect from an ear assessment?

You will be taken to a private room and made comfortable on either a bed or a chair, depending on your preference and mobility. A thorough history will be taken to ensure that earwax removal is suitable for you. The possible side effects will be discussed with you and you will be asked to complete a consent form.

There will be an inspection of your ears, looking from the outside at your ear in general and the surrounding area, and also feeling for signs of heat, pain or swelling. A magnifying device with a personal disposable cover will then be used to assess the inside of your ear, looking at the ear canal and the ear drum, so long as wax does not prevent the view.

After giving consent, your ear wax removal treatment can begin.

How long does wax removal take?

Both procedures usually take approximately 20-30 minutes per ear, and most patients feel a benefit from the procedure immediately.
